There are many small human details in "Rome" that I find intriguing and "ring true" . For examples:
(1) When Octavia and Atia are giddily shopping for jewelry in the local mart. The slave (Eleni?) steps in and closes the deal with no nonsense. I've seen that a thousand times as have most of us.
(2) Lucius and Titus look at the stars -- as we all do -- and speculate on their origin. This is a universal human experience, I think.
Any others?
I hope this subject won't deteriorate into a "chat".

Beagle,
I've been away and not able to access the forums... so I have just learned of Missus Beagles passing just this morning. I am so saddened by your loss. I pray for her soul in heaven and that God will grant you peace.

I've been deeply touched by the many eloquent condolences generated in response to my sad news of the passing of "Missus Beagle".
Perhaps I will be able to respond with thoughts of the future.
For now, though, my keyboard is awash in saltwater tears.

Unfortunately I heard of Mrs. Beagle?s passing. I?m sure she was a classy lady as Mr. Beagle is a gentleman, and she will be sorely missed.

You have always been somewhat of a gentleman emeritus on this board, I easily picturing Missus Beagle as a domina revered by both friends and family.
As you prepare for your days of solace, let us help you honor her in Roman fashion, mourning as we follow behind you, offering garlands of early summer flowers and a fine wine, and listening to your stories of remembrance... whenever the time is right to relay them.

It saddened me to hear of the loss of your wife. You spoke of her with such high regard, that I believe that she must have been a wonderful woman, as I hold you in great esteem.
No words can lessen the impact of her death, but I hope you take some strength in knowing that you are still in all of our thoughts and my prayers.

Please accept my deepest condolences on your tragic loss. Nomad kindly informed me and others of Missus Beagle's passing. You are in my thoughts, and I send my sincere sympathy.
I agree with Mark; I believe in the butterfly effect, and fully admit that the people I have met here in this forum, and have conversed with and gotten to know over the past several years, have become a part of my life that I will never forget. I have always enjoyed reading your posts and debates, and hope that you will continue to grace these message boards with your presence. While we know so little of each other, besides the words on a screen....it is those very words that can at times help you through the toughest times we endure.
I am grieved to hear of your loss and hope that time will remove any pain that lingers from it.
I appreciated the words of fellow romies when I was going through a similar time at the passing of my mother last November.
You are among the great ones here to me because it is those very debates with your words and others that encouraged me to continue reading nonfiction Roman history. From my first entrance here to this moment I have gathered and investigated, researched, read and learned more in the few years of my time on this forum than in my entire life.
I believe in the butter fly effect. We each effect the lives of each other in ways we will never know.
I know I feel Missus Beagles influence in you.

I have not been on these boards in ages but Nomad was kind enough to let a few of us know of your wife's passing.
I cannot begin to imagine what you are going through. I am so terribly sorry. Your relationship sounded like a very special one indeed.
I will pray for God to give you the strength to get through this. I know in my heart that she will be welcomed in heaven with open arms.

As I've learned over the last decade, the overwhelming majority of anonymous responses to my published writings (on HBO and in many other venues) range downward from argumentative to ad hominem attacks and further into the depths of those ignorant armies fighting battles on darkling plains.
Yet, there are always a precious few who can conduct energetic, informative and civil discourse without rancor or a need to overcome. I salute them.
As to the others: I salute them also:
